Located on approximately 3,000 acres of beautiful landscape in Northeast Mississippi the Hamilton facility is Tronox's largest titanium dioxide manufacturing facility. Fantastic Creole cuisine and music of New Orleans and the sparkling white beaches of the Gulf are also just a short drive away. Hamilton is in the heart of Southeastern Conference Sports, a premier location for college sporting events.

Tronox is looking for a forward-thinking AI Intern to contribute to the development of intelligent systems across a wide range of domains. From humanoid robotics to AI applications in education, healthcare, space exploration, and even animal communication, you will help shape the next generation of adaptive and perceptive technology.

This internship focuses on the end-to-end development of machine learning solutions, including data processing, model training, optimization, and real-world deployment. You’ll work hands-on with large datasets, neural network architectures, and innovative tools to solve complex challenges in AI perception, interaction, and decision-making.

We also encourage interns to explore and incorporate the latest in AI development tools, helping the team stay agile and ahead of the curve in an ever-evolving tech landscape.

Your work will be both technical and strategic, contributing not only to the functionality of AI systems, but also to cross-industry applications and collaborative documentation for knowledge transfer.

Primary responsibilities:

Assisting with AI Model Development

• Assist in building and optimizing machine learning models, ensuring they meet project requirements.
• Participate in the preprocessing of datasets and data cleaning to improve the performance of AI models.
• Work with supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning techniques, depending on the project.

Conducting Research and Data Analysis

• Perform research on current AI trends, technologies, and best practices to assist the team in staying up to date.
• Analyze and process large datasets to extract meaningful insights for AI model development.

Testing and Evaluation of AI Models

• Assist in testing AI models to ensure they are functioning as expected.
• Identify and address potential issues or inaccuracies in AI systems.

Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams

• Work closely with engineers, data scientists, and other teams to align AI solutions with business goals.
• Contribute ideas and insights during team meetings, offering solutions to optimize AI solutions.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain detailed records of AI experiments, model development processes, and results.
• Assist in preparing reports and presentations summarizing the outcomes of AI research or experiments.

About You

Qualifications

• Enrollment in or recent completion of a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Previous coursework or projects related to machine learning or AI is a plus.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud), big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark), and version control systems (Git) is beneficial.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java. Knowledge of AI/ML libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of statistical methods, linear algebra, and calculus to develop and evaluate machine learning models.
• Familiarity with data manipulation, cleaning, and preprocessing techniques.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and optimize models.
• Ability to clearly communicate findings, challenges, and solutions to team members.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

• Must be clean-shaven in areas where facial hair would interfere with the proper fit and seal of a respirator. This includes no beards, goatees, mustaches that extend below the top lip or excessive sideburns.
• Occasionally ascending or descending stairs and moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks.
• Occasional prolonged periods of remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Constantly walking long distances from one worksite to another.
• Occasionally lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions
