Job Summary

Registered Nurse, Intermediate Care Unit, Wausau, Wisconsin. This position provides care for patients in a 36-bed intermediate care setting, including patients requiring telemetry monitoring, ventilator or tracheostomy management, sepsis care, trauma recovery, and complex medical-surgical support. The assignment requires adaptable clinicians who can manage changing priorities, work independently, and float to higher-acuity inpatient units as needed.

Job Details

• Contract Length: 13 weeks, from 11/16/2026 through 02/14/2027.
• Schedule: Rotating 12-hour day and night shifts, including 7:00 a.m.7:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.7:30 a.m., with a minimum of 48 hours per week.
• Required Qualifications: Wisconsin Registered Nurse license; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross; associate degree or nursing certificate; at least 2 years of experience; intermediate care, stepdown, or progressive care experience; ventilator and tracheostomy experience; and at least one prior travel assignment.
• Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree, intensive care unit experience, and Level II trauma experience.
• Float: Float rotation may be required.
• Additional Information: The role supports a high-acuity intermediate care population with a typical patient ratio of 4:1. Clinical responsibilities may include heavy telemetry monitoring, weaning ventilators and tracheostomies, and caring for patients with sepsis, alcohol detoxification needs, gastrointestinal bleeding, colostomies or ileostomies, chest tubes, traumatic brain injuries, orthopedic trauma, spinal cord injuries, and stroke. Every other weekend and every other holiday are required. An electrocardiogram examination is required during compliance. During flu season, individuals who decline flu and COVID vaccinations must wear a mask at all times.
