L&D RN (Registered Nurse) in Bakersfield, CA

Capstone Healthcare Staffing is seeking an experienced L&D RN (Registered Nurse) to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in a hospital Labor & Delivery unit in Bakersfield, CA. As a key member of the obstetric care team, you will support patients and families through one of the most important moments in their lives, while working with a staffing agency that values a culture of care, dedication, and professional growth.

In this role, you will deliver comprehensive nursing care to laboring, antepartum, and postpartum patients, as well as newborns, in a fast-paced acute care environment. You will perform ongoing maternal and fetal assessments, monitor and interpret fetal heart rate tracings and uterine activity, recognize early signs of complications, and respond promptly to obstetric emergencies. You will administer ordered medications—including oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, epidural-related medications, and antihypertensives—while closely monitoring for therapeutic and adverse effects.

The L&D RN will assist obstetric providers with vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, inductions, and high-risk procedures, ensuring that all interventions align with current evidence-based practice and hospital protocols. You will be responsible for newborn stabilization and initial assessments immediately following delivery, coordinating with neonatal care teams as needed. Postpartum responsibilities include thorough maternal assessments, pain management, breastfeeding support, and education on recovery and newborn care.

This position requires accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and strong collaboration with physicians, midwives, anesthesiologists, neonatal nurses, and other members of the interprofessional team. You will actively participate in handoffs, interdisciplinary rounds, and care conferences to promote safe transitions and continuity of care. A high level of professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and compassionate communication is expected, as you will support diverse patients and families through labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.
