Staff Developer Experience (DX) Engineer

Role Description

As a Staff Developer Experience Engineer at Deepgram, you will:

• Own the direction of developer experience.
• Set the DX roadmap (what we build, in what order, and why) and act as the technical lead for the area without direct reports.
• Be the person Product, Engineering, and Partnerships come to for the DX point of view.
• Own the SDK code-generation architecture.
• Design and own the system that produces our SDKs, ensuring predictable shipping of supported libraries.
• Set the standard for how developers experience the platform.
• Define the quality bar, cross-language parity, versioning and release discipline, and observability across all SDKs.
• Raise the level of everyone who touches the SDK surface through code review, patterns, documentation, and pairing.
• Attack friction at the root by finding systemic causes that slow developers down and fixing them structurally.
• Build the tooling the whole team relies on, including the code-generation pipeline, CI, and supporting infrastructure.
• Design for resilience and longevity, ensuring documentation, automation, and architecture can be operated and extended by the team.
• Be the technical voice into Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Partnerships, providing context and technical input for good decision-making.

Qualifications

• A track record of owning developer-facing tooling across multiple languages.
• Experience with AI as part of your workflow, including agentic pipelines and custom tooling.
• An instinct to build reusable systems that outlive you.
• First-principles reasoning about systems, including SDKs and partner ecosystems.
• Production ownership instincts, treating production SDKs with observability and incident response.
• Ability to go beyond core responsibilities, picking up developer content, demos, or community work as needed.
• A focus on developer outcomes, connecting SDK and documentation work to product activation and retention.

Requirements

• Experience in real-time, streaming SDKs.
• Proficiency in multiple languages and tech stacks including Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Rust, .NET, and Java.
• Familiarity with open-source contributions and engaging with external contributors.
• Ability to design spec-driven, generated SDKs from shared API specifications.
• Experience with building tooling that supports both human developers and AI coding agents.
