Position Overview Switchboard/Parent Support Clerk JobID: 5377 Position Type: Secretarial/Clerical/ Secretary - 12-Months Location: Lincoln Center Closing Date: 07/08/2026 Who We Are Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 13,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has 1 early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9th – 12 grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City. What We Need Under the direct supervision of the Technology Manager for Diverse Learners and indirectly to the Executive Director for Information Technology Services this position will provide district switchboard support for all incoming calls and, when necessary, verbal bilingual interpretation/translation to provide increased support to parents and community stakeholders entering Lincoln Center and limited data/technical support to the ITS Department. This individual must have strong multi‑tasking skills and an in‑depth knowledge of WPS programs to direct parents and visitors to the appropriate department and/or school. In addition, this person must have strong communication and computer skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Answer phones and route phone calls to the appropriate division or office. Ensure that a caller's first contact with WPS is friendly, professional and helpful. Interpret and translate for visitors to Lincoln Center, when necessary, to assist and direct them to the appropriate division or office. Check voicemail and respond in a timely manner throughout each day. Place toll calls for WPS staff when requested. Assist in the management of district extension number assignments. Program call manager for extension changes and/or new phone replacement. Communicate with schools and departments to ensure correct extension number assignments. Assist IT Department with student and staff devices turned in at LC, including inspection and receipt by student or staff. Assist IT Data Team with managing new address requests and removing invalid or incorrect household phone numbers for the Student Information System. Assist with any additional job‑related data entry tasks, which may include but are not limited to inventory management. Qualifications Commitment to the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels. Excellent organizational skills. Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word. Friendly and professional interpersonal skills with a strong customer‑service orientation. Ability to care for minute details and edit skills to ensure reliable and accurate results and verify information for accuracy. Minimum typing speed of 45 words per minute and the ability to pass required proficiency test(s). Work Environment Busy office environment with multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.
