Engineer IV

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking an Engineer IV to join a large utility company here in Houston, Texas. The Engineer IV is responsible for applying engineering principles to design, analyze, and manage natural gas distribution system projects that support safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations. This role performs engineering calculations, pressure and load analyses, cathodic protection studies, and pipeline design activities while developing engineering drawings and technical specifications for construction projects. The Engineer II manages projects from planning through field installation, coordinating with contractors, vendors, utility companies, government agencies, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful execution and compliance with company standards and DOT CFR 192 regulations. Additional responsibilities include preparing project estimates, budgets, and economic justifications; reviewing construction costs and completed work for adherence to project requirements; troubleshooting system performance issues; and supporting continuous improvements to distribution system reliability and operations. Through strong technical expertise, project management skills, and cross-functional collaboration, the Engineer IV contributes to the safe expansion, maintenance, and long-term integrity of the gas distribution network.

Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering discipline.

• 5-8 years of utility engineering, gas distribution design, pipeline design, or utility construction experience.

• Experience performing engineering calculations, pressure studies, load analysis, and project cost estimates.

• Strong project management experience with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Knowledge and experience with a GIS mapping system - Ideally Arc GIS

Professional Engineer license - Natural gas utility experience.

• Pipeline design and construction experience.

• Knowledge of cathodic protection systems.

• Experience working with capital improvement projects and construction management.

• Familiarity with utility permitting and right-of-way coordination.

• Experience working in Blue Beam

• Experience working with a pressure modeling system - ideally Synergy Modeling
