Unit Overview

Location: Corpus Christi, TX

Unit Type: Emergency Department

Number of Beds: 16 with 8 hall chairs
Staffing: 6-7 staff members per shift
Patient Ratios: 1:4 (low acuity ESI 4 & 5, may take 6)

Staff Composition

Day Shift:

1 Charge Nurse
1 Triage Nurse
4-5 Nurses (including one mid-shift)
1 Ultrasound Technician
1-2 Technicians

Night Shift:

1 Charge Nurse
1 Triage Nurse
4-5 Nurses (including one mid-shift)
1 Ultrasound Technician (7 PM to midnight)
1 Technician

Equipment Used

Cardiac Monitors
Baxter IV Pumps
HP machines
Tonopen and more

Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

Meditech, with vital signs integrating directly into the chart.

Hiring Profile

Skill Set Required:

Compassion, Urgency, and Teamwork are essential qualities.
Experience in Level II or Level III trauma situations.
Certifications: TNCC, ENPC or PALS, ACLS, BLS are mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications:

CEN or TCRN certification
Certification in CPI
More than two years of experience in an emergency department

Care for ESI levels 5 through 1

Dress Code

Preferred Scrub Color: Royal Blue
Seasonal team spirit attire on Sundays (e.g., team jerseys)

Unit Guidelines

Mandatory shift huddles at 7 AM and 7 PM, unless engaged in critical care.
EMTALA training is required for all staff.

Awards and Recognition

The unit is committed to improving patient satisfaction and employee engagement, providing timely care for Stroke, STEMI, Sepsis, and Trauma patients.

Additional Information

The unit is undergoing transition from a Level IV to a Level II trauma hospital, enhancing its capability and resources for quality patient care.
