Emergency Department Registered Nurse

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Part Time Day or Night shifts as needed by the facility (2x12). All contracts must run through Feb/March.

Job Description

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient need, identifies urgent or emergent care priority, and collaboratively provides direct care, applies appropriate interventions, and evaluates patient progress.

Responsibilities

• Connect with patients and families during triage, establishing rapport and addressing comfort needs.
• Conduct primary assessments and document any major deviations from the norm for all age groups.
• Identify contributing factors and assess psychosocial needs of patients and their families.
• Encourage mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best patient outcomes.
• Prepare patients, parents, or families for diagnostic procedures and treatments, making appropriate referrals.
• Assess patient/family learning styles and structure educational sessions for maximum understanding.
• Maintain awareness of the patient's condition throughout the ER visit and keep them informed.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Two years of experience in an Emergency Department as a registered professional nurse.
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI only).
• Active RN licensure in New York State.
