Orthopedics - Hand Surgery Physician

Capital Medical Group (CMG) is seeking a full-time, fellowship-trained Hand & Upper Extremity Surgeon to join the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. This role offers a concurrent faculty appointment at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences ( GW SMHS), a base salary plus wRVU productivity bonus and academic stipend compensation model, and the opportunity to teach orthopedic residents and medical students at an academic Level I Trauma Center, allowing you to focus on comprehensive hand and upper extremity care while working alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary orthopedic team. Quick Facts Employment Type: Full-time Call: Participates in the hand call rotation, covering the GW University Hospital Emergency Department Location: The George Washington University Hospital, Foggy Bottom, Washington, DC Practice Setting: Academic medical center; 371-bed, ACS-verified Level I Trauma Center; principal teaching hospital for GW SMHS Support / Care Team: Advanced practice providers, nursing staff, orthopedic residents (5-year ACGME program), and medical students EMR / Technology: GW Hospital (Cerner) / CMG Outpatient (Epic) Responsibilities Evaluate and treat the full spectrum of hand, wrist, and elbow conditions, including trauma, degenerative and inflammatory arthritis, and nerve compression syndromes Perform soft-tissue, tendon, and nerve reconstruction, including microsurgical procedures as indicated Provide surgical management of hand trauma seen at the GW Hospital Level I Trauma Center, including complex soft-tissue injury where applicable Manage acquired hand deformities and post-traumatic reconstruction Supervise orthopedic residents and medical students in clinic and the operating room as part of the dedicated Hand rotation Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and support staff to manage day-to-day clinical responsibilities Document care using the GW Hospital / CMG electronic health record Compensation & Benefits Salary: Base salary + annual wRVU-based productivity incentive + academic stipend for GW SMHS teaching, mentorship, and scholarly responsibilities; final amount commensurate with training/experience and determined per CMG Fair Market Value compensation review Sign-on / Relocation: Available as negotiated Health, Dental, Vision & Retirement: Comprehensive CMG physician benefits plan, including malpractice/tail coverage PTO, CME & Schedule Flexibility: CME allowance and professional dues/licensure support Wellness & Work-Life Balance Support: Details to be confirmed with CMG HR Qualifications D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school, with successful completion of an ACGME-accredited Orthopedic Surgery/Plastic Surgery/General Surgery residency and completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Hand Surgery Board Certified / Board Eligible by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS) with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Surgery of the Hand, or equivalent certification through the American Board of Plastic Surgery or American Board of Surgery pathway Active or eligible District of Columbia medical license Eligible for and able to maintain medical staff privileges at GW Hospital and a faculty appointment at GW SMHS Growth & Development Academic rank and track (tenure, clinical, or research) commensurate with training and experience, with a path for promotion through the GW SMHS appointments and promotions process Mentorship, teaching, and academic involvement through supervision of orthopedic residents and medical students, and participation in scholarly activity (clinical research, case series, QI projects, national presentations) About the Organization & Community Capital Medical Group (CMG) is the newly established academic physician enterprise providing physician services to The George Washington University Hospital, assuming this role from the GW Medical Faculty Associates (MFA); physicians hold concurrent GW SMHS faculty appointments, preserving GW's academic mission of clinical care, education, and research.
