Clinical Educator Position in Musculoskeletal Infectious Diseases

The Division of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a dedicated and innovative clinician-educator faculty member in Orthopedic/Musculoskeletal Infectious Diseases to join our growing multidisciplinary program. The successful candidate will provide high-quality subspecialty clinical care in musculoskeletal infections, contribute to education across the learning continuum, and participate in scholarly activities within a leading academic health system.

This role is ideal for a board-certified or board-eligible Infectious Diseases physician with specialized training or experience in Orthopedic/Musculoskeletal Infectious Diseases who is passionate about advancing the field through patient care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and education. The faculty appointment will be within the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine .

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert clinical care for patients with musculoskeletal infections, including prosthetic joint infections, osteomyelitis, and fracture-related infections in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Participate in consultative care on a dedicated Orthopedic/Musculoskeletal Infectious Diseases inpatient service at Vanderbilt University Hospital.
• Collaborate closely with orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, wound care, pharmacy, and other disciplines in a highly integrated care model.
• Develop and deliver educational programs for medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals.
• Mentor trainees and junior faculty, fostering a strong culture of education and professional development.
• Contribute to the continued growth and innovation of the Orthopedic ID program, including clinical pathways, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary initiatives.
• Participate in clinical, translational, or outcomes-based research related to musculoskeletal infections, as aligned with career interests.

Qualifications

• MD, DO, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
• Board-certified or board-eligible in Infectious Diseases.
• Demonstrated excellence in clinical care and a commitment to patient-centered practice.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to education and supervision of trainees.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in academic medicine, including teaching and mentoring.
• Interest or experience in clinical research, quality improvement, or program development in musculoskeletal infections.
• Track record of scholarly activity (peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or grant involvement).
• Experience working within multidisciplinary orthopedic infection programs or similar collaborative care models.
• Specialized training or significant clinical experience in Orthopedic/Musculoskeletal Infectious Diseases.

1. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in Infectious Diseases, eligible for Tennessee medical licensure, and have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in the United States.
