Host Hostess

Job Requirements

The Host/Hostess is responsible for assembling and delivering meals to patients. This role ensures that trays are accurate according to the CBORD-printed tray ticket and comply with each patient's prescribed diet. Responsibilities include assisting with tray assembly on the meal line, delivering trays to patient units, collecting soiled trays, and transporting them to the dish room.

The Host/Hostess educates patients about the room service meal program and assists patients who are unable or unwilling to place meal orders independently. This position regularly interacts with patients, nurses, unit secretaries, family members, and visitors. The Host/Hostess continually develops knowledge and skills necessary to effectively serve patients of all ages, including neonates, toddlers, school-age children, adolescents, adults, geriatric patients, and terminally ill patients. In addition, the Host/Hostess is responsible for maintaining inventory and stock levels in assigned floor pantries.

Rotating shift: Days, Evenings, and rotating weekends

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks:

Starter:

The Starter prepares trays at the beginning of the patient tray line. Responsibilities include reviewing tray tickets printed from the CBORD system and placing the appropriate condiments, utensils, and other required items on each tray. The Starter is also responsible for restocking the starter station during downtime.

Assembler:

The Assembler ensures that each tray ticket is accurately followed and that all required hot and cold food items are included on the tray. This role places or assists in placing food items on patient trays and ensures tray accuracy before they move through the line. The Assembler is also responsible for restocking the tray line area during downtime.

Host/Hostess / Tray Delivery:

The Host/Hostess reviews trays at the end of the tray line to ensure accuracy and places completed trays onto holding carts. Responsibilities include delivering meals to patients within established timeframes, collecting soiled trays after meals, and assisting patients with meal ordering as needed. This role serves as a key point of contact for patients regarding meal service and satisfaction.

Work Experience

Work Orientation & Experience:

Prior experience in food service or retail preferred. The incumbent may require up to 2 months of detailed job orientation and training to gain specific capabilities to perform essential job functions.

Skills & Abilities:

Ability to work well under time constraints. Ability to work on multiple assignments under minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment is required. Ability to read and understand English is essential. Ability to understand and follow directions. Ability to use basic math skills. Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages. Ability to communicate effectively with members of the floor staff.
