INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT

Instructional Assistant

Provides support to a lead teacher in charge of a classroom. Will reinforce lessons by tutoring individual students or small groups. Duties include documenting progress, and overseeing lesson preparations.

Assists children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.

Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.

Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.

Discusses assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.

Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.

Observes students' performance and records relevant data to assess progress.

Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using agreed upon methods of delivery (whole groups, small groups, and/or individual support).

Assists with checking materials and portfolios, correcting papers, supervising, and testing as directed by the teacher.

Assists with student attendance procedures, record keeping, collecting money, organizing classroom learning spaces, and ordering materials.

Prepares lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations for their assigned classroom(s).

High school Diploma or equivalent.

Possess a work ethic and personal belief system that aligns with the mission and vision of East Wake Academy.

Demonstrated organizational and technology skills.

Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.

The physical activity of this position includes maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.

Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Maximum Weight 50lbs Average Weight 20lbs.

Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
