Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in keeping a high-volume manufacturing facility running safely and efficiently by repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining a wide range of production and packaging equipment. This position focuses on both reactive and emerging preventive maintenance activities to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose, repair, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on a variety of equipment, including packaging machines, vacuums, glue spreaders, door machinery, CNC machines, wrappers, and saws.
• Inspect, repair, and replace critical machine components such as belts, pulleys, sensors, conveyors, switches, and control panels to ensure optimal performance.
• Work with equipment from multiple brands and models, adapting to different machine configurations and control systems.
• Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns in a fast-paced production environment and perform effective root-cause analysis to prevent recurring issues.
• Support the transition from a predominantly reactive, "putting out fires" maintenance approach to a more structured preventive maintenance program.
• Perform routine inspections and scheduled maintenance tasks to reduce unplanned downtime and extend the lifespan of machinery and components.
• Troubleshoot and maintain power generation-related systems, including compressors and hydraulic (fluid power) equipment.
• Use mechanical aptitude and systematic troubleshooting methods to walk through issues and determine appropriate repair strategies.
• Handle basic to advanced electrical tasks depending on skill level, including work on low-voltage systems, 3-phase motors, and control panels.
• Collaborate closely with production and maintenance team members to prioritize work orders and coordinate repairs with minimal impact on operations.
• Follow all safety guidelines and lockout/tagout procedures when working on equipment to maintain a safe work environment.
• Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage to support accurate recordkeeping and continuous improvement of maintenance processes.
• Communicate clearly with team members about equipment status, potential risks, and recommended corrective actions.

Essential Skills:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing or industrial maintenance.
• Hands-on mechanical maintenance experience with power generation-related equipment, including compressors and hydraulic (fluid power) systems.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to systematically troubleshoot and walk through complex equipment issues.
• Experience working with mechanical systems such as conveyors, pumps, motors, belts, pulleys, and related components.
• Basic to intermediate electrical knowledge, including low-voltage systems and manufacturing equipment wiring.
• Ability to troubleshoot and work with 3-phase motors and related electrical power systems.
• Familiarity with packaging equipment and general production machinery in an industrial environment.
• Ability to read and work with control panels and basic electrical schematics.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented culture and get along well with others.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with noise and airborne particulates.
• For more advanced levels (Tech 3 and Tech 4): electrical skills with manufacturing equipment, experience with 480V systems, and the ability to read PLC ladder logic.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining CNC routers and related machining equipment.
• Experience working with compressors and power generation equipment in an industrial setting.
• Exposure to PLC-based control systems and the ability to interpret ladder logic for diagnostics (Tech 4 level).
• Experience with hydraulics and fluid power systems in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Previous work with conveyors, packaging machinery, and automated production lines.
• Ability to adapt to different machine brands and models and learn new equipment quickly.
• Comfort working in roles ranging from mostly mechanical with basic electrical (Tech 2) up to advanced electrical and PLC diagnostics (Tech 4).
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset that supports a positive team culture.
• Willingness to participate in the development and execution of preventive maintenance programs.

Work Environment:

This role is based in a fast-paced manufacturing plant that processes a high volume of wood products, resulting in significant sawdust in the work area. The facility uses systems to pull sawdust out of the building, but some airborne dust may still be present and inhaled. The environment can be noisy and is nonclimate-controlled, so temperatures will vary with the seasons. Work is performed on-site around running production equipment and machinery. The typical schedule is a Monday through Friday day shift of 12 hours, with an additional 8-hour shift on Saturday, supporting continuous operations and rapid response to equipment issues. Appropriate work attire should be suitable for an industrial setting, with a focus on safety and comfort in a dusty, noisy, and physically active environment.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Permanent position based out of San Antonio, TX.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $58240.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
