Summary

The Sawtooth Robotics Mechanical Systems Engineer is responsible for designing and building cutting-edge robotic systems. This role is primarily focused on mechanical machine design but will also involve hands-on assembly, integration work, and supporting programming and controls efforts. The ideal candidate is passionate about engineering, eager to work across disciplines, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Conceptualize and design custom machinery and robotic systems using CAD software.

· Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.

· Support hands-on machine assembly, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting.

· Assist with basic programming, wiring, and system integration tasks.

· Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and controls teams to deliver fully integrated systems.

· Drive designs from concept through prototype to production.

· Communicate with vendors to source components and support fabrication.

· Draft technical documentation, including specifications, reports, and user manuals.

· May require travel for equipment installations, commissioning, and customer site support.

· Flexibility for occasional weekend or extended hours during critical project phases.

Skills and Abilities

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

· Strong communication and collaboration skills.

· Proficient with 3D CAD modeling (Onshape preferred) and engineering drawing creation.

· Comfortable working hands-on with mechanical assembly, tools, and troubleshooting.

· Interest or experience in basic programming and electrical system integration.

Education and Experience

· Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and/or equivalent industry experience.

· 2-5+ years of experience in machine design (preferably automation, robotics, or capital equipment).

Reporting

· No supervisory responsibility.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

· Must be able to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitive movement, reaching (including but not limited to above shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning, and twisting.

· Able to lift 50 pounds in accordance with Sawtooth Robotics safe work practices.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
