We are a research center located within the Biostatistics Department at the School of Public Health (SPH) on Michigan's central campus. We are looking for an experienced and dynamic staff member to contribute positively to our community. As Associate Director, you will lead and mentor SABER statisticians, guide strategic and operational planning, oversee grant and project development, collaborate with investigators on complex multisite studies, advance statistical methods and teamwork, and represent SABER across the University and broader research community. This position reports to the Director of SABER.SABER prides itself on fostering a collegial, open, and family-friendly work environment, and our team is fully remote.This is a five (5) year term-limited position, with the possibility of renewal depending on performance and funding availability.For more information on SABER, please visit: For more information on the Biostatistics Department, please visit: Responsibilities*Manage and supervise SABER statisticians and provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the SABER statistics functional area. SABER statisticians possess a wide variety of skills and/or knowledge, performing somewhat complex to very complex tasksAs a member of the SABER Leadership Team, assist the SABER director and drive SABER direction with overall strategic planning and implementation, organizational development, and resource allocationOversee the processes for development of grant proposals, budgets, and scopes of work for new and continuing funding, from both statistical and operational perspectives, and be responsible for improvements in these processesCollaborate independently with clinical and scientific investigators on the design, conduct, and analysis of both clinical trials and observational studies, typically in the multi-site context. Collaborative activities include determining study design and data collection, grant proposal development/writing, conducting statistical analyses, preparing statistical consideration sections of study protocolCollaborate with research teams on long-range plans for projects/programs, leading with both statistical and operational expertiseFoster a spirit of teamwork among statisticians and SABER project work-groupsIdentify and apply appropriate statistical methodologies when presented with design and analysis problems that arise in clinical trial and observational study contexts, which may necessitate literature reviews, independent research, and/or collaboration with biostatistics facultyPresent results of study, methodological, and/or operational work at professional meetings and other forumsDevelop and maintain relationships with faculty within SABER and other research groups within and outside the University. Represent SABER to external and internal audiencesRequired Qualifications*Doctorate with 10+ years of clinical research experience as a statistician or Master's with 15+ years of clinical research experience as a statistician5+ years of administrative and supervisory experience (academic or research experience preferred)3+ years of experience leading complex multi-site data coordinating center projects, including oversight of scientific, statistical, operational, resource allocation, relationship management, and fiscal areasExperience leading and supervising a large team of statisticians (10+ simultaneously), integrating statistical activities into cross-functional clinical research teams, and managing changeDemonstrated experience successfully collaborating with investigators to develop their ideas into funded studies and identifying new funding opportunities throughout the University and externallyAbility to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of responsibilitiesProven ability to manage competing priorities with exceptional attention to detail, along with excellent communication skillsUnderstanding of ICH, GCP, and FDA regulations and guidelines with regard to the conduct of human subject researchModes of WorkPositions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
