education (K-12 and higher); justice and essential services; science and technology; state and local government; transportation; water and wastewater; energy; and commercial, residential and nonprofit markets.Job DescriptionEssential Duties & Responsibilities:Assists in defining and reviewing the Project Requirement Document scope of work andschedule including interim housing requirementsPerforms highly complex civil engineering work related to the planning, design, andconstruction of District facilities and site improvements; provides technical direction to Districtpersonnel, commissioned architects, and consulting engineers; and certifies civil engineeringdesign plans.Apply civil engineering principles, practices, processes, and procedures to the planning, design,and construction of FSD projects, including project scope development, budget preparation,design review, and technical coordination with District and external professional staff.Provides technical direction to commissioned architects and consulting civil engineersregarding District policies, standards, and design guidelines for site development, includinggrading, paving, fencing, parking layouts, streets, storm drainage, sewer systems, and othersite improvements associated with new construction and major alterations to existing facilitiesand sites.Provides technical direction to personnel within the Civil Engineering Unit in the preparationand review of project scope documents, topographic surveys, design drawings, specifications,and related technical documents.Obtains and manages contracts and task orders for civil engineering, land surveying, andrelated professional services.Reviews civil engineering plans, specifications, and related documents prepared bycommissioned architects and consulting engineers for conformance with District policies,standards, design guidelines, applicable codes, and project requirements; identifies conflictswith other architectural and engineering features and directs or recommends necessaryrevisions.Develops, updates, and maintains civil engineering standards, guidelines, and specifications toensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety requirements, and industry practicesand to promote quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in construction, maintenance, andoperation.Directs and reviews site development studies to determine the feasibility and estimated cost ofsite grading, street improvements, utility improvements, and other civil engineeringrequirements associated with property acquisition and development.Provides technical advice and resolves civil engineering issues encountered duringconstruction; advises contractors, commissioned architects and engineers, District constructioninspectors, and other project personnel regarding civil engineering requirements and fieldconditions.Provides professional certification of civil engineering designs and documents for assignedDistrict and commissioned projects, as authorized by applicable professional licensingrequirements.Coordinates with the City of Los Angeles and civil engineering consultants to obtain review andapproval of drawings and permits for off-site improvements adjacent to District school sites,including B-Permit and A-Permit work such as sidewalks, driveways, bus drop-offs, ADA curbramps, and related improvements;
