LPN Medical Surgical

Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses in a medical-surgical acute care or ambulatory care setting. The role includes medication administration, patient assessments, and therapeutic procedures following established protocols. The LVN/LPN collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure quality patient care, with a focus on safety and compliance with regulatory standards. This position requires a current Illinois Practical Nurse license, BLS certification, and completion of pharmacology coursework. Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care and therapeutic procedures as directed by registered nurses.
• Administer medications in accordance with Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation standards.
• Perform patient assessments and report changes in condition to the healthcare team.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support patient care plans.
• Document nursing activities and patient responses accurately in the electronic medical record system.
• Float within scope of practice to meet facility needs as required.
• Adhere to infection control and safety protocols within the correctional facility environment.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing program in Illinois.
• Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Illinois.
• BLS certification.
• Successful completion of pharmacology/medication administration coursework as required by IDFPR.
• Minimum of two years recent full-time clinical experience in acute care or ambulatory care preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in a medical-surgical or correctional facility setting.
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic charting system.
• Ability to float to other units within scope of practice.

Special Considerations:

• Mandatory float facility; all staff must float as directed to meet patient care needs.
• No call requirements.
• No return to office (RTO) on weekends, holidays, or the day before/after holidays.
• Work environment includes a correctional facility setting.

Scheduling:

• 36 guaranteed hours per week.
• Work schedule includes every other weekend (2 weekends per month).
• Maximum of 5 days return to office with no more than 2 consecutive days.
• Shift assignments may vary based on facility needs and floating requirements.
