Bloodspot Screening Lead Job Location: 250 N 17th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85007 Posting Details: Salary: $61,798 | Grade: 21 Job Summary This position will be responsible for performing critical and time sensitive follow-up and case management services for newborns and infants with abnormal dried blood spot screening test results. It will serve as the lead for the section, providing follow-up case management on complex, time‑critical test results, training staff on procedures and assisting follow‑up specialists with difficult cases. Responsibilities include analyzing laboratory test results, documenting actions in laboratory management information systems and coordinating follow‑up activities among physicians, hospitals, parents and testing centers to ensure proper timely services and care. The role also provides customer service to doctors, parents and external partners regarding newborn screening results, participates in continuous quality improvement projects, reviews SOPs, and supports education events at hospitals. Additional duties include performing quality assurance reviews and assisting with development of SOPs for the section. Job Duties Conduct timely follow‑up and case management services for newborns with abnormal dried blood spot screening test results. Analyze laboratory results to determine appropriate actions for follow‑up. Coordinate follow‑up activities among and between physicians, hospitals, parents and testing centers. Document all actions in patient records and laboratory information databases and prepare reports as needed. Participate in CQI activities, including long‑ and short‑term project planning and protocol review. Develop monitoring and evaluation procedures for new and ongoing disorders. Attend newborn screening partner meetings, follow‑up team meetings, huddles, webinars and workshops. Provide customer service to doctors, parents and external partners. Assist with newborn screening education events at hospitals. Assist with onboarding and training of new staff and support the supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned related to the position. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge Medical terminology Database management and record keeping Laboratory or audiological testing procedures, test results and implications Alternatives/options to standard office operating procedures Case management and medical terminology related to newborn screening Genetics, metabolic disorders, and evidence‑based follow‑up practices National recommendations, emerging conditions, and evolving newborn screening technologies Performance Management, CQI, and Lean methodologies Skills Written and verbal communication Organization and prioritization Analysis and interpretation of test results Interaction with medical professionals, healthcare institutions and the public (active listening, sensitivity) Computer operation Abilities Learn ADHS Newborn Screening Program objectives, standards, follow‑up protocols and procedures Make informed decisions and work effectively under stress Quickly identify abnormal or borderline results, assess risk, coordinate with healthcare providers, and ensure timely communication and referrals Evaluate complex laboratory results, integrate evolving clinical guidelines, and determine appropriate next steps Gather information effectively via phone or email and document accurately Work in a team environment Support a diverse multicultural workforce and promote equal opportunity, creating an inclusive environment Selective Preference Preference given to candidates with Social Services/case management experience and a Master’s degree in a related field.
