Fellowship Opportunity in Advanced Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery

Our organization is actively looking for fellows to join our one-year operative program in Advanced Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery within the Department of Otolaryngology. This program emphasizes surgical techniques related to thyroid and parathyroid procedures while providing extensive exposure to Head & Neck Surgery. We also consider two-year commitments on an individual basis, and mission electives are highly encouraged.

This fellowship offers a unique chance to train in a specialized thyroid and parathyroid practice. The fellow will receive mentorship from a seasoned expert with nearly 20 years of experience in this field, gaining invaluable insights from this focused practice. Responsibilities include:

• Participation in over 300 thyroid and parathyroid surgeries, including reoperative procedures.
• Utilization of minimally invasive techniques and management of regional metastatic disease.
• Expertise development in thyroid/parathyroid ultrasound and cancer management.

To complement this specialized training, the fellow will also engage with six full-time fellowship-trained Head & Neck surgical oncologists who regularly perform thyroid and parathyroid surgeries. Additional Head & Neck cases may be available based on the fellow's interests, including:

• Major head and neck ablative surgeries
• Microvascular reconstructions
• TOLMS/TORS procedures
• Endoscopic skull base surgery
• Open and craniofacial surgeries

A well-rounded operative experience is encouraged, tailored to the fellow's specific interests. Participation in the education of residents and students, along with limited research opportunities, is also expected. The fellow may assist at the VA or county hospital for specific cases if desired.

While this is primarily a surgical fellowship focused on operative experience, limited call and clinic responsibilities will be in place to ensure proficiency in ultrasound and biopsy practices. Time off and resources for board preparation will be provided. A California Medical License is mandatory for this position.

• Completion of ENT residency training.
• Ability to obtain a California Medical License and ENT privileges.

The fellowship is situated in Loma Linda, a family-oriented community recognized as the only Blue Zone in the United States, known for its strong community ties and dedication to health and wellness. Located in Southern California between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, this area, known as the Inland Empire, offers easy access to beaches, skiing, hiking, and various outdoor activities. The region boasts a low cost of living and excellent educational institutions, both public and private. Faculty members may also qualify for federal student loan forgiveness programs.

The starting base compensation for this position ranges from $90,000 to $104,000, adjusted according to years of experience and faculty rank. This figure does not include variable compensation or additional productivity incentives and is subject to departmental compensation plans.
