Adjunct Professor of Journalism

Position Information Posting Number: Adjunct_0401938 Title: Adjunct Professor of Journalism Classification Title: Adjunct Professor Working Title: Adjunct Professor of Journalism Annual Hours: As needed or assigned Placement Range: $740 per Credit Hour Position Type: Adjunct Faculty Primary Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and deliver high‑quality instruction in courses approved by the chair or dean, including News Writing, Magazine Feature Writing, Writing for the Web, Introduction to Mass Communications, Video Production, Audio Production, Advertising, Principles of Public Relations, and Special Topics courses TBD. Develop clear course objectives, relevant class activities, effective presentations, equitable grading practices, and maintain a positive learning environment. Provide timely feedback and support to students, both in‑person and online. Participate in program assessment and student learning outcome evaluation. Respond promptly to information requests from program, division, and College administrators. Attend required department, division, and College meetings. Pursue ongoing professional development and acquire new knowledge and skills relevant to the discipline. Fulfill special assignments agreed upon with administration. Contribute to the College’s vision, mission, goals, and priorities. Teach courses that may be offered online, via Zoom, on campus, or concurrently at local high schools (travel may be required). Required Qualifications Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Journalism, Broadcasting, Mass Communications, or a closely related field. Evidence of journalism writing proficiency through published articles. Experience with podcast production and digital content creation. Demonstrated positive human relations and communication skills. Basic computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar software. Flexible teaching style adaptable to individual learning styles. Commitment to student success and attainment of college education. Willingness to learn and use computer programs such as Moodle. Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Reliability and punctuality. Preferred Qualifications Previous community college teaching experience. Physical Demands / Working Conditions Work will be conducted in classroom and office environments. Work Schedule Day, evening, and/or weekend hours as required by section assignment. Health & Safety Adhere to Board of Regents and College policies and procedures. Contribute to a safe educational and working environment. Follow established safety and health procedures; complete quarterly training. Participate in emergency drills and assist in response to health or safety emergencies.
