The unit typically has 32 beds with patient ratios of 4:1 and 5:1. Common diagnoses include medical/surgical overflow, with a focus on non-acute stroke patients. Registered Nurses on this unit are responsible for validating telemetry strips and may have charge nurse or house supervisor roles. There are nurse aides available on the unit, with average ratios of 8:1 to 10:1. The unit utilizes BIPAP and high-flow oxygen equipment. Shifts are from 7 AM to 7:30 PM or 7 PM to 7:30 AM with self-scheduling options. Weekend and holiday requirements will be based on unit needs. There may be standby assignments but no call required. Floating to other units may occur. The team is known for being highly functioning, supportive, and family-oriented. No requests for time off will be accepted during the first week of assignment.
