Medical Director - part time (4 hrs/week)

POSITION: Medical Director Schedule: Part Time (4 hrs/wk) Facility: Central Regional Jail Location: Sutton, West Virginia

POSITION SUMMARY

Under administrative and clinical supervision of the Regional Medical Director, the Site Medical Director is responsible for promoting and providing high-quality medical care and works collaboratively with the Regional Medical Director, physicians, physician extenders, dentists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other medical professionals operating within the medical facilities at the site. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Participate in Clinical Case/Disease Management initiatives. Treat difficult to manage patients with chronic disease. Utilize corporate clinical experts to assist in chronic disease management. Review all patients to be presented at Collegial Review for off‑site/specialty care. Prepare and present cases at the Collegial Review. Ensure that no backlogs occur for chronic care clinics and sick call by working with site providers and site manager. Ensure appropriate infirmary care is delivered; supervise infirmary rounds. Review care plans for all patients returning from hospitalizations, ER runs, and off‑site specialty care visits. Review and sign‑off on labs daily. Provide clinical supervision as a leader and mentor for staff physicians and mid‑level providers at the site level. Work closely with the site manager to ensure successful, efficient and effective patient care. Respond promptly to corporate, state‑wide and regional medical directors and managers; check email at least twice daily and respond to Agency Medical Director guidance. Address medical grievances with assistance of site managers. Communicate regularly with dentists, mental health professionals, and optometrists on site to develop a holistic approach to healthcare. Communicate clinical and administrative issues to site manager and regional medical director quickly and efficiently and develop corrective action plans. Perform death and case reviews prior to sending to the regional medical director. Perform peer reviews of medical directors/providers from other facilities. Participate in monthly reviews of off‑site care, DME utilization, provider prescriptive practice, laboratory, and X‑ray services with the state‑wide medical director, regional medical director and pharmacy services. Meet with the warden/AWP regularly and develop good working relationships with security. Assist staffing in provider recruiting initiatives. Participate in provider training. Participate in audits. Ensure site clinical coverage; share in after‑hours and weekend call duties. Perform other duties as assigned by state‑wide and regional medical directors.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Licensure: Current West Virginia medical license; Current West Virginia Controlled Substance license; Current DEA. Certification: Current CPR certification required; CCHP certification preferred. Education: Medical degree required. Board certified or board eligible preferred. Preferred Experience: Five (5) years of clinical experience preferred. Prior experience with use of an electronic medical record system.
