General Manager – Pickleball Facility (Whidbey Island, WA)

About the Opportunity
We are seeking a highly organized, energetic, and entrepreneurial General Manager to lead operations at our boutique, 2-court pickleball facility on beautiful Whidbey Island.
This is not a “caretaker” role — this is a business operator + community builder position. You will be responsible for creating an exceptional player experience, growing programming and revenue, and building a vibrant pickleball community.
You’ll work directly with ownership and lead a small team of part-time coaches, with the autonomy to shape and grow the facility.
What You’ll Do
This role combines facility operations, programming, coaching, and business leadership —consistent with top pickleball and sports facility management roles.
Operations & Facility Management
- Oversee all day-to-day operations of the facility
- Manage court scheduling, reservations, and utilization
- Ensure facility cleanliness, safety, and readiness at all times
- Coordinate maintenance, equipment, and vendor relationships
- Implement systems and processes for efficient operations
Programming & Revenue Growth
- Develop and manage leagues, clinics, lessons, and events
- Organize tournaments, socials, and community programming
- Maximize court utilization and revenue per court
- Identify new revenue streams (memberships, events, partnerships)
Coaching & Player Experience
- Teach lessons, clinics, and private sessions (pickleball and/or TYPTI)
- Create a welcoming, high-energy, and inclusive environment
- Engage with players to build strong relationships and retention
- Serve as the face of the facility and community ambassador
Team Leadership
- Hire, train, and manage part-time coaches/instructors
- Schedule staff and ensure high-quality instruction delivery
- Set performance expectations and maintain accountability
- Foster a positive, team-first culture
Business & Administrative Management
- Track KPIs: revenue, utilization, program participation
- Manage basic budgeting, reporting, and cost control
- Support marketing efforts (local outreach, social media, partnerships, promotions)
- Communicate regularly with ownership on performance and opportunities
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- 3+ years in sports facility management, club management, or similar role
- Experience in pickleball, tennis, TYPTI or racquet sports programming
- Prior experience coaching or teaching (strongly preferred)
Core Competencies
- Highly organized and systems-oriented
- Self-starter with strong ownership mentality
- Strong interpersonal and community-building skills
- Business-minded with ability to grow revenue and participation
- Comfortable balancing operations, coaching, and administration
Bonus Points
- Existing pickleball network or following
- Experience launching or growing a sports program
- Familiarity with booking/member management software
