The opportunity: This logistics leadership role supports Smurfit Westrock’s Recycled Fiber business by developing and executing strategic, end-to-end logistics solutions that optimize cost, service, and operational performance. Serving as the primary logistics subject matter expert, this individual partners closely with executive leadership, mill operations, and Recycled Fiber management to align transportation strategies with business objectives across the network. The role is accountable for achieving budgeted logistics expenses, meeting service and operational performance requirements, and driving continuous improvement initiatives that deliver sustainable cost savings and efficiency gains. Reporting to the Senior Director, Logistics Operations and Warehousing, this position plays a critical role in advancing the organization’s logistics strategy and supporting overall business growth. How you will impact Smurfit Westrock: Serve as the Fiber organization’s logistics subject matter expert, providing strategic leadership in budgeting, forecasting, market intelligence, and transportation planning for North American recycled fiber operations. Lead the development and execution of logistics strategies that ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective inbound fiber transportation while supporting business objectives and customer expectations. Partner with senior business leaders to establish logistics priorities, communicate market trends, review spend forecasts, and align annual productivity initiatives with corporate strategic goals. Drive transportation cost optimization and continuous improvement initiatives through fleet utilization, carrier strategy, demurrage reduction, inventory management, and network efficiency programs. Provide operational leadership and escalation support for transportation and distribution issues, coordinating cross-functional resources across procurement, operations, warehousing, finance, analytics, IT, and S&OP teams. Develop and maintain logistics performance dashboards and KPIs, delivering reporting, variance analysis, and actionable insights to improve service, costs, and overall supply chain performance. What you need to succeed: Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain or Logistics Proven ability to lead through influence across complex, matrixed organizations, aligning diverse stakeholders around common business objectives and logistics strategies. Demonstrated success developing high-performing teams and fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and operational excellence. Strong executive presence with the ability to effectively communicate and present recommendations, performance results, and market intelligence to senior leadership teams. Strategic thinker with experience translating business goals into actionable logistics initiatives that drive cost savings, productivity improvements, and service enhancement. Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to partner effectively with operations, procurement, finance, supply chain, sales, and external transportation providers. Results-oriented leader with proven experience managing large-scale transportation networks, leading change initiatives, and delivering measurable business outcomes in a dynamic environment. Ability to successfully manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
