Position Summary

The Preschool Aide supports the Lead Teacher and Preschool Director in providing a safe, nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children. The Preschool Aide assists with classroom routines, supervision, learning activities, transitions, staff break coverage, and the daily care of children while helping maintain a positive and welcoming preschool environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher with the supervision and care of children throughout the school day.
• Maintain active supervision of children in the classroom, on the playground, during transitions, meals, rest time, and other activities.
• Provide scheduled break and lunch coverage for teachers and other classroom staff as assigned by the Preschool Director, while maintaining required staff-to-child ratios and licensing requirements.
• Transition between classrooms as needed to provide staff coverage and support the daily operation of the preschool program.
• Assume classroom supervision responsibilities during staff breaks only when qualified and authorized to do so under applicable licensing requirements.
• Assist with preparing and implementing developmentally appropriate classroom activities and learning experiences.
• Support children with classroom routines, including arrival, dismissal, handwashing, toileting, meals, clean-up, and transitions.
• Encourage children's independence, social-emotional development, communication, and positive peer interactions.
• Use positive, age-appropriate behavior guidance strategies consistent with preschool policies and procedures.
• Assist with classroom set-up, organization, cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining learning materials.
• Help prepare materials for lessons, art projects, classroom activities, special events, and celebrations.
• Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, welcoming, and safe classroom environment.
• Observe children and communicate relevant information or concerns to the Lead Teacher and/or Preschool Director.
• Follow individual health, allergy, medication, emergency, and safety plans as directed and permitted.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and school matters.
• Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, families, coworkers, and school leadership.
• Follow all preschool policies, licensing requirements, health and safety procedures, and mandated reporting responsibilities.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, professional development, and school events as required.
• Assist other classrooms and preschool staff when needed to support appropriate supervision and program operations.
• Perform other duties related to the preschool program as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Preschool Director.
