As part of the Surgical Specialty Team, our unit brings together RNs, LPNs, Nursing Care Partners, Unit Ambassadors, and Clinical Support Associates who work side by side to deliver exceptional patient care. The unit also serves as an extension of our renal/pancreas transplant program, partnering closely with the outpatient transplant center to support patients through critical stages of care. Every bed is monitored, giving nurses the opportunity to strengthen telemetry skills while expanding their expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing. The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas. For new graduates , this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice. Education Requirements Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required BSN or MSN preferred Students completing an accredited nursing program may be considered Certification/Licensure Requirements Registered Nurse license required Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nurse license may be considered Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire Experience Requirements Prior RN experience preferred Intermediate Care/Stepdown experience preferred Strong candidates with related acute care, intermediate care, cardiac, stroke, or med/surg experience are encouraged to apply New graduate RNs or experienced RNs with no acute care experience are encouraged to apply Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is the region’s first Magnet hospital, a 525-bed medical center, a primary teaching facility, and home to the area’s only Level I Trauma Center within a 126-mile region.
