The Shop Technician maintains, diagnoses, and repairs a wide range of equipment, with a strong focus on flooring equipment, pumps, generators, air compressors, and other mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. This role ensures all rental equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for use, while following all applicable safety rules and procedures. The Shop Technician uses technical expertise to troubleshoot complex equipment issues and keep downtime to a minimum.

Responsibilities

• Service and perform major repairs on all types of shop and rental equipment to ensure proper working condition before equipment leaves the shop.

• Dismantle, reassemble, and rebuild equipment components as needed to restore functionality and extend equipment life.

• Fabricate parts and modify equipment when necessary to meet shop requirements and customer needs.

• Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment problems using appropriate tools, schematics, and technical documentation.

• Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment to reduce breakdowns and minimize downtime in the field.

• Perform thorough safety inspections on all equipment to verify safe operation and compliance with safety standards.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop work environment, including proper storage and use of tools and equipment.

• Support and collaborate with other mechanics and technicians by sharing knowledge, assisting with repairs, and contributing to team problem-solving.

• Assess the time, labor, and material costs required for repairs and communicate these assessments as needed.

• Specialize in specific types of large equipment, such as excavators, backhoes, aerial lifts, trucks, generators, or pumps, as needed in larger facilities.

• Follow all safety rules, procedures, and company guidelines while performing maintenance and repairs.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by leadership to support shop operations and customer needs.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on mechanical experience working with construction equipment such as excavators, backhoes, aerial lifts, trucks, generators, and pumps.

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform mechanical assembly, disassembly, and repairs.

• Proficiency using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in a shop environment.

• Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation for mechanical and electrical systems.

• Experience performing preventive maintenance on equipment to reduce failures and extend service life.

• Knowledge of diesel engines, including troubleshooting and basic repair.

• Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems up to 480 volts.

• Ability to diagnose and repair pumps and generators, including mechanical and electrical components.

• Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.

• Ability to perform electrical maintenance safely and in accordance with safety standards.

• Reliability and a strong work ethic, with consistent attendance and follow-through.

• Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.

• Willingness to learn new systems, equipment, and technologies and to participate in ongoing training.

• Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following all safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• HVAC experience or exposure is a plus and can support broader equipment maintenance capabilities.

• Military experience is a plus and may demonstrate strong discipline, technical skills, and teamwork.

• Experience supporting other technicians or mechanics in a collaborative shop environment.

• Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical schematics and documentation.

• Demonstrated ability to maintain an organized work area and manage multiple repair tasks.

• Positive attitude and strong communication skills when working with team members and leadership.

Work Environment

Work primarily involves standing, bending, and using tools to service and repair equipment, with an emphasis on maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly shop area in compliance with safety standards and procedures.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
