Materials Manager 1

Take the lead in helping the Department of Transportation deliver durable and dependable infrastructure! As a Materials Manager 1, you oversee reviews, testing procedures, and quality assurance processes for fabricated materials. Your work supports project success and keeps construction activities aligned with statewide specifications. This opportunity allows you to build strong relationships, guide technical staff, and enhance the quality of transportation products! This position oversees material inspections, quality assurance activities, and program oversight for fabricated materials used in transportation projects. The role ensures statewide consistency, compliance, and strong technical practices. As a Materials Manager 1, you will perform the following duties: Work Supervision: Assign and oversee Materials Technicians performing inspections and testing at fabrication facilities and project sites Quality Reviews: Conduct quality assurance reviews to evaluate fabricator operations and identify necessary improvements Assurance Evaluation: Perform independent assurance reviews by verifying personnel, equipment, and inspection procedures for compliance Corrective Actions: Develop solutions for discrepancies, enforce corrective action plans, and document results in required systems Specification Compliance: Review materials, certifications, and engineering documents to ensure they meet applicable requirements Training Support: Provide instruction to industry partners and staff on material control techniques and departmental specifications Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This position will be based at the Materials Testing Lab (81 Lab Lane, Harrisburg, PA 17109) or at a district office nearest the selected candidate Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience as a Materials Supervisor or Materials Technician 3 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Five years of progressively responsible and varied experience in the testing of materials used in highway, bridge, building, or hydraulic or similar construction projects; and graduation from high school. An Associate Degree or two years of college in an engineering or science curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required experience; or One year of technical experience in the testing of materials used in highway, bridge, building, hydraulic, soils or similar construction projects; and a Bachelor's Degree in a physical science or closely related field; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training. Other Requirements: This particular position also requires a valid Class C driver's license. You must meet the PA residency requirement.
