RN Emergency Room

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room (ER) at Hilo Medical Center provides skilled nursing care in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The nurse is responsible for patient assessments, emergency interventions, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in a 28-bed department including trauma bays, behavior health rooms, and cardiac monitor rooms. This role requires strong clinical skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage a high patient turnover. Responsibilities:

• Perform patient assessments and provide skilled nursing care in the ER setting.
• Manage emergency interventions and trauma care in trauma bays and cardiac monitor rooms.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
• Ensure patient safety and comfort during emergency and routine care.
• Participate in ongoing training and certification maintenance.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current active Registered Nurse license in the State of Hawaii.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in emergency or acute care settings.
• Strong clinical assessment and emergency nursing skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Certifications in Procedural Sedation, Trauma Management Core Course (TMCC), and Emergency Medical Pediatric Care (EMPC).
• Experience working in a fast-paced emergency department.

Special Considerations:

• Must obtain and maintain an active Hawaii RN license prior to assignment start.
• Work within a 28-bed ER department with trauma, behavioral health, and cardiac monitoring areas.
• Fast patient turnover requiring strong time management and prioritization skills.

Scheduling:

• Day shifts, 3 twelve-hour shifts per week (36 hours weekly).
• 13-week assignment with no guaranteed hours beyond scheduled shifts.
