Defense Health Agency
Job Description
Job Description
US Citizenship and Residency Completion Required for Application
OverviewThis role is situated at the Director for Clinical Support, Department of Radiology, within a prominent military medical center. The work environment is based in a hospital office setting. The radiology department operates as a specialized academic practice that includes a Graduate Medical Education (GME) program. The standard workday includes occasional evening shifts, morning readout sessions with residents, and on-call duties during nights and weekends, with weekend on-call responsibilities approximately 3-4 times a year.
This military medical center, previously known as the National Naval Medical Center and often referred to as Bethesda Naval Hospital, is located in Bethesda, Maryland. It stands as one of the largest and most significant military healthcare facilities in the United States, having provided medical services to several U.S. presidents since its establishment in 1940.
In 2011, the Walter Reed Army Medical Center merged with the National Naval Medical Center to create the tri-service Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Working with the Department of Defense offers numerous advantages, including competitive salary packages, paid leave, healthcare benefits, student loan repayment options, and a retirement plan featuring a Thrift Savings Plan with employer matching contributions.
It is important to note that federal civilian healthcare providers are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while performing their duties, thus medical malpractice liability insurance is not required.
