Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Endoscopy Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 9 Experience: Two plus years of relevant experience License: RN License Certifications: BLS-AHA, ACLS-AHA Must-Have: Patient care, endoscopy procedures, moderate sedation, GI procedures, patient assessment Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and resources within the philosophy of the institution. The RN is responsible for patients undergoing endoscopy procedures, including prep, intra-procedure, and recovery phases for routine GI procedures of colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. The RN will provide direct patient care, rotating through the phases, and deliver moderate sedation under the direction of a physician. The RN works collaboratively with unit staff to provide care to outpatient populations and delegates to unlicensed personnel as appropriate. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge. The RN identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solutions. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. The RN prepares the patient for the procedure. The RN completes assessment, reviews health history, starts IV, and provides education to the patient. The RN monitors and sedates patients during their procedure. The RN cares for patients in both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery. The RN assists during cases requiring anesthesia involvement. The overall role of the RN is to define, direct, supervise, and evaluate patient care directly and via delegation to others by using the nursing process. The RN is required to float between different departments. The shift will be day shift with rotating start times. The schedule will consist of 4-9 hour shifts with rotating days off.
