Registered Nurse II

Registered Nurse II Western Massachusetts Hospital, operated by the Department of Public Health, is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse II to provide specialty inpatient care for adult and geriatric patients requiring ventilatory/respiratory support, end‑of‑life care, neuromuscular, Alzheimer’s, and chronic conditions. Full‑time, 40‑hour nights (11:15 PM–7:15 AM) with every other weekend; overtime required. Responsibilities Performs direct hands‑on nursing care using established hospital policies, procedures, and nursing standards of care. Assesses and records the patient’s health status upon admission using the hospital’s nursing assessment process. Develops and maintains an up‑to‑date written plan of care for each patient, identifying problems, care needed, and patient goals. Documents changes in the patient’s condition and care rendered according to established nursing service guidelines. Participates in and implements nursing and hospital‑wide quality assurance activities. Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and the care team to enhance continuity of care. Maintains personal and professional growth by attending in‑services, keeping current with contemporary nursing practice, and participating on hospital committees. Participates in employee performance reviews by keeping supervisors informed of staff performance through consultation and documentation. Performs charge nurse duties on the unit for a single shift or on a regular basis. May instruct unit personnel in nursing techniques, procedures, and equipment. Required Qualifications Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing. Understanding of the problems in providing nursing services to special client groups such as mentally, physically, or emotionally handicapped individuals. Knowledge of the types and application of emergency medical procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and tourniquet use. Preferred Qualifications Meditech and Meta experience, CPR and IV certification. Sound knowledge of the philosophy, principles, practices, and theories of public health nursing. Demonstrated knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods, techniques, safety practices, and medical terminology/abbreviations. Ability to establish effective relationships with individuals, families, providers, physicians, and staff members. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Salary & Benefits Salary range: $86,385.78 – $144,149.72 per year (subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement).
