Description St. John Paul the Great Academy is the only multi-age STREAM Academy in the Northwest corner of CT. Beginning as early as Pre-K 3, our educators teach our Pre-K through middle school students real world applications and life-long skills. In our liberal arts curriculum, the subjects are coordinated to support each other under an instructional framework highlighting how science, technology, religion, engineering, language arts, and mathematics all connect in the real world. The STREAM Framework helps to develop critical thinkers and future leaders through the integration of Religion. It encourages a climate of innovation through faith and interdisciplinary instruction. It allows students to meet their goals through problem-solving, group collaboration and independent research in a progressive and creative learning environment. St. John Paul the Great Academy is searching for a well-organized, dynamic, and faith-filled teacher for our Grade 2 Class. This is an exceptionally bright and energetic group of students who have just finished a great year in Grade 1. Candidates must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with their local parish. Key Responsibilities: Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction in core subject areas (e.g., Math, Language Arts, Catholic Religion, Social Studies) following the Archdiocese of Hartford curriculum.
Integrate Catholic teachings and values into daily lessons, classroom culture, and interactions with students.
Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement, curiosity, and growth.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and backgrounds of students.
Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments; provide timely, constructive feedback.
Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, school initiatives, and professional development / learning.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, classroom activities, and school events.
Participate in school liturgies, prayer services, and faith-based activities as part of the school's Catholic identity.
Maintain accurate records , including attendance, grades, and required documentation.
Uphold all school policies , including safety protocols, behavioral expectations, and professional standards as outlined in the Staff Handbook.
Other Responsibilities: Weekly Participation in After School Staff Meetings and Early Dismissal Professional Learning; Participation in some evening events, including Back-To-School Night, Open Houses, STREAM Nights, Family-Teacher Conferences, Christmas & Spring Concerts, and Graduation; Participation in Archdiocesan Events (Fall Teacher Conference, Spring Mass in Hartford). Requirements Bachelor's degree in education related to the grade level taught (Master's degree preferred). Valid state teaching certification or eligibility to obtain certification (Elementary Education, 1-6). Demonstrated understanding of child development and effective instructional practices. Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students. Practicing Catholic in good standing with the parish. Commitment to the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience teaching in a Catholic or faith-based school. Familiarity with standards-based grading and curriculum frameworks. Ability to integrate technology into instruction. Experience with differentiated instruction, small-group learning, and/or intervention strategies.
