Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Intuitive Surgical seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical design of precision components and subsystems for medical devices. The role encompasses concept through manufacturing transfer, with emphasis on cross-functional collaboration, prototyping, and design for manufacturability.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of precision components, mechanisms, and subsystems from concept through prototype and manufacturing transfer
• Perform tolerance analysis, stack-up modeling, FEA, and verification testing to validate design performance and margins
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on design reviews, risk assessments, and failure analysis to resolve integration challenges
• Drive design for manufacturability and supplier engagement across fabrication, finishing, and joining processes
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards

Requirements

• BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or Biomedical Engineering
• Minimum 6 years mechanical design experience in medical devices, robotics, or imaging systems
• Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD with complex assemblies and GD&T
• Strong understanding of tolerance analysis, stack-up modeling, and mechanical simulation
• Hands-on experience with opto-mechanical systems, electronics packaging, and sterilization constraints
• Proven ability to independently own and execute complex mechanical designs
• Effective cross-functional communication and problem-solving in iterative environments
