Construction Inspector - Roanoke, VA

Job Details Job Location: Richmond Virginia Office - Richmond, VA 23230 Summary Wallace Montgomery is looking for a Construction Inspector to join our team and project in Roanoke, Virginia. Construction Inspectors inspect, observe, and document construction and maintenance projects; performing tests on soils and material. Work is performed under the supervision of a Project Engineer. In most cases, an Inspector’s day‑to‑day direct supervisor may be a client’s direct employee. Construction Inspectors have many categories that range from an entry‑level inspector to a senior inspector. All Inspectors are required to travel and be available to work in any part of the State, subject to change of assignments, as work requires. We work when the contractor works. Inspectors are required to have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Inspectors must also be able to work the night shift when required. Essential Functions Performs field inspections of construction and maintenance projects and of existing roadways, structures and facilities. Conducts and/or observes and documents tests on soils, asphalt, concrete, aggregates, bituminous products, metal products and industrial coatings. Responds to data requests. Participated in traffic control activities. Other duties as assigned. Obtains VDOT certifications: Soil and Aggregate Compaction, Asphalt Field Level I & II, Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field, Pavement Marking, Slurry Surfacing, Flagger Certification, Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection, Stormwater Management (Inspector) Certification, Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control, GRIT (Guardrail) Certification. Obtains Nuclear Gauge Safety Training and the 10‑Hour OSHA Safety Training. Fills out the Inspector’s Daily Report (IDR), which memorializes all labor, equipment, and material used on the project each day. Maintains daily progress photos of the work. Fills out Force Account records when there is an unresolved change, but the changed work still must be performed. Maintains a Sketchbook that contains a variety of construction documentation. Participates in the reconciliation of pay quantities on progress payments submitted by the Contractor. Attends all meetings, as needed and appropriate. When appropriate, participates in change‑order negotiations. When appropriate, participates in CPM schedule meetings.
