Substitute School Nurse

Substitute School NurseProvide healthcare to students, perform health screenings, and coordinate referrals to medical, home or private health care providers. Serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, community and healthcare providers to advocate for healthcare and a healthy school environment.Essential Functions:Ensure safety and wellbeing of studentsProvide quality healthcare and services to students in need under the guidelines of school nursingProvide leadership in promoting health and safety, including a healthy environmentActively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy and learningAdminister medication in compliance with medical orders and State guidelinesSupervise, monitor and evaluate health paraprofessionalScreen for illness, authorize exclusion and readmission of students with infectious and contagious diseasesFollow laws and regulations regarding reporting abuse and neglect, and illnesses to proper authoritiesMaintain current records, activity logs, progress reports, treatment plans and all other necessary filesComply with professional, ethical and legal codes of conduct, standards for Nurses as outlined by the Connecticut Department of Health and Connecticut State Department of EducationUse mandatory assessments, professional evaluations and assessments to evaluate studentsAttend in-services as requiredPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, education and conversationMaintain strict confidence concerning personnel, students and operational concerns of the districtOther Duties and Responsibilities:Serve as a role model for students and staffInteract with students and staff and promote overall wellnessRespond to questions and offer support in an appropriate and timely mannerCreate and maintain a professional and approachable atmosphere for allPerform related duties as assigned by administrationQualifications:Valid State of Connecticut RN license issued by the Connecticut Department of Health3-5 years of experience preferredCertification in CPR, First Aid and AEDAbility to meet physical job requirements including computer work, electronic and written charting and notes, lift, push and/or pull various supplies and/or equipment up to maximum of 20 pounds, assisting students with ADL skills and positioningRequired knowledge and skills:Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skills and ability to work effectively with othersOrganizational and problem solving skillsExcellent public relations skillsProficient knowledge of federal, state, and local laws including the Connecticut State Department of Education governing special education
