Art and Design Adjunct - Studio Art

Background check required Art and Design Adjunct – Studio Art .563 = 30 hours/week, 9 months Position Overview The NCCU Department of Art and Design has an immediate need for an adjunct in Studio Art (e.g.: Painting and Drawing). Inspired art and design educators will teach up to 3 courses within their areas of specialization, as listed above. The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree, professional experience, as well as a passion for teaching. This adjunct professor will prepare students for careers in the field through in‑person lecture and studio‑based learning, critiques, and exposure to traditional and cutting‑edge creative approaches. Primary Responsibilities Teach Painting I: Painting and Color Theory (3 credit hours) Monday/Wednesday 5:00 pm – 7:45 pm for the Fall 2026 semester. Consider teaching Introduction to Art History (2 credit hours) Tuesday/Thursday 5:15 pm – 6:05 pm for the Fall 2026 semester. Prepare lesson plans, syllabi, assignments, and critiques; assess student progress. Maintain an inclusive learning environment where students of all backgrounds can thrive. Qualifications Master’s of Fine Arts or Master’s Degree in the field (MA or MFA). Strong creative portfolio reflecting conceptual depth, aesthetic refinement, and technical skill across a range of projects. Strong letters of reference validating teaching excellence and ability to inspire students. Experience teaching and mentoring in a diverse student body. Strong communication skills, organizational ability, and experience managing multiple priorities.
