Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is preferred. Experience with the EPIC system is required. The patient population includes surgical patients, gunshot victims, quadriplegics, and paraplegics. The nursing support ratio is 5:1. Phlebotomists are available on the unit. There is a unit secretary available during the night shift. An emergency department nurse and the admitting unit perform a nurse handoff.
