Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of veterinary practice, gain hands‑on clinical experience, and work within a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service. Responsibilities Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations. Create treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, and other medical management tasks. Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures. Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Duration and Timing Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on student schedules and hospital availability. All veterinary students are encouraged to participate. Eligibility and Stipend Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
