Backend Engineering Intern, Payments & Platform

About BindMarket

BindMarket is building software infrastructure for commercial insurance distribution. We power broker workflows, carrier integrations, authentication, policy operations, and compliance-critical transaction flows.

We are hiring a Backend Engineering Intern to help build the payment and transaction systems at the core of the platform.

Role Overview

You will work on backend systems that power payment collection, transaction tracking, policy workflows, and platform reliability. This is a hands-on role with real ownership across APIs, transaction services, and AWS infrastructure.

What You’ll Work On

  • Payment and transaction workflows that support quote-to-bind and policy operations
  • Backend services for state management, idempotency, reconciliation, and auditability
  • Carrier and insurance API integrations for quoting, issuance, and payment events
  • Performance, reliability, and maintainability improvements across backend systems
  • Server-side services and APIs in TypeScript and Python
  • Transactional data models focused on consistency, traceability, and visibility
  • AWS infrastructure and deployment workflows using infrastructure as code
  • Testing, logging, monitoring, and production readiness

  • TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js, React

  • AWS CDK, DynamoDB, Cognito, Secrets Manager, Lambda
  • Third-party API integrations in insurance workflows
  • Git or any source code management system

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong skills in TypeScript/Node.js or Python
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, authentication, and backend system design
  • Exposure to AWS or another major cloud platform
  • Interest in payments, transaction-heavy systems, or regulated software
  • Comfortable working in an early-stage environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Next.js, AWS CDK, DynamoDB, Cognito, Lambda, or Secrets Manager
  • Experience with third-party APIs or webhook-based workflows
  • Familiarity with logging, observability, and distributed systems
  • Interest in fintech, insurance, or infrastructure software

  • Remote
  • 15–20 hours per week
  • 3-month internship
  • Unpaid, if applicable
