Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night/Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years of CVICU experience required License: Valid RN license required Certifications: AHA BLS and ACLS required Must-Have: Experience and knowledge of NextStage CVVH machine required Telemetry test required prior to start Description: This position involves day and night shifts, working 12 hours from 0700 to 1930 and 1900 to 0730. Every other weekend and some holidays are required, with no on-call duty. The unit specializes in the care of cardiothoracic surgery, heart and lung transplant, and cardiac medical patients. Typical procedures include Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), valve repair/replacements, and a range of cardiac surgeries. The nursing team consists of charge nurses and registered nurses providing direct patient care. The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1-2 patients per nurse, possibly 3 if acuity allows. Nurses are supported by nursing assistants and a unit clerk during shifts. Staff assignments can change throughout shifts based on patient flow and acuity adjustments. Procedures often take place on the unit, requiring staff to navigate complexities effectively. Skills required include managing ventilated patients, central line care, and monitoring for dysrhythmias. Experience with devices such as CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ECMO is essential. A telemetry examination is mandatory, involving identification of lethal rhythms and answering questions on heart blocks. Successful candidates must demonstrate both knowledge and adaptability in a dynamic and high-acuity environment. Candidates should also have a commitment to meeting patient and family needs, utilizing technological expertise appropriately.
