Summary This position is accountable for performing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures that produce high‑quality, diagnostic digital exams. It may be a MRI Float Technologist, a MRI Technologist who conducts cardiac studies or breast biopsies, or a MRI Team Lead. The role operates with minimal supervision, demonstrates advanced MRI skills, follows established protocols for patients of all ages, and performs IV‑skilled MRI procedures that require judgment, initiative, and radiological diagnostic competency. The technologist assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure to be performed and records all reasons for the exam, including signs and symptoms. Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation, administering oral or IV contrast when necessary or ordered. Is familiar with SAR levels and follows proper magnetic safety protocols. Positions the patient on the examining table using protocols, adjusting immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of the area requested by the physician, and collaborates with the radiologist and team performing breast biopsies. Moves MR equipment into the specified position and adjusts controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance per protocols. Processes radiologic MRI digital images, examines them for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability, and prints CDs when requested. Verifies that the patient’s exam corresponds to the ordered exam in PACS and makes changes to billing codes or exam titles as needed. Ensures prior studies are presented to the radiologist along with the current studies for diagnostic assessment. Stocks and orders supplies, checks the machine for problems, performs equipment QC as needed, and undertakes any other duties assigned daily. All other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications / Education / Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a two‑year radiologic technology program from an accredited school. Current and valid Florida State License (CRT). Current and valid Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry MRI (MR) registry or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT). Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (CPR). Knowledge and skill in performing MRI general procedures and protocols. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary for MRI imaging, including body mechanics and patient movement. Knowledge of safety requirements for staff, patients, and visitors. Skill in positioning patients properly. Skill in using computer network systems competently to process patient and department information. Skill in performing quality exams and exercising compassion with patients. Skill in administering IV contrast materials. Skill in completing job functions in a timely manner. Knowledge of customer service concepts and clinic policies, including safety, privacy, and HIPAA regulations. Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians, and other staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co‑workers, and management. Float technologists will be responsible for learning and knowing different equipment at various locations.
