Business Analyst - Insurance Business Analyst - Insurance
Kin Insurance
Quick Summary Turn P&C product decisions into build-ready requirements, then confirm they shipped right. Kin makes life simpler, more affordable, and better for homeowners — especially in the places where climate risks, rising costs, and outdated systems make it harder. We start with smarter homeowners insurance and expand to everything homeowners need to thrive.
Using data, technology, and thoughtful human support, we’re building products that are clear, fair, and help homeowners feel confident — so homeowners aren’t left behind when they need help most.
Founded in 2016, Kin is a remote-first employer with Kinfolk across more than 35 states. We serve customers in 14 states (and counting). Our disciplined growth, strong customer satisfaction, and focus on long-term sustainability fosters outstanding growth, attracts marquee investors, and earns recognition and accolades, including:
Forbes' America's Best Startup Employers (2026)
5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies
Forbes’ Fintech 50 (2023-2026)
Most importantly, we’re building Kin to be a place where people do meaningful work with real impact — for our customers, our communities, and each other. We're excited to tell you more about how you can contribute to our rapid growth, strong unit economics, profitability, and excellent customer ratings. To learn more about how we work and what we’re building, visit kin. We're looking for a Senior Insurance Business Analyst to help us turn insurance product decisions into systems that work exactly as intended. Each launch, filing, and coverage change depends on clear translation between the people who design insurance products and the engineers who build them. This role sits at that intersection of insurance product development, operations, and technical delivery. It's built for someone who knows P&C insurance products deeply and asks the right questions early.
You'll sit within the Project Management Organization and own the requirements lifecycle for new products, state launches, endorsements, coverage changes, forms, rating updates, and compliance requirements. You'll work across Insurance Product, Actuarial, Underwriting, Compliance, Claims, Operations, Engineering, and Tech Product to define what needs to be built and confirm it was built correctly. As your ownership grows, you'll become the go-to resource for teams that depend on accurate, implementation-ready requirements. Own the requirements lifecycle for insurance product and state-configuration changes, from initial discovery through an implementation-ready handoff to Engineering and Tech Product
Translate business decisions on new products, insurance filings, forms, endorsements, coverages, rating algorithms, eligibility rules, and state-specific configurations into clear business requirements and functional specifications
Partner with Insurance Product, Actuarial, Underwriting, Compliance, Claims, Operations, Tech Product, and Engineering to gather inputs, resolve ambiguity, confirm decisions, and maintain alignment from business decision through system deployment
Document current-state processes and system behavior, define future-state workflows, and manage requirements changes throughout delivery
Identify gaps, edge cases, dependencies, compliance requirements, and downstream impacts across rating, policy administration, billing, claims, servicing, and reporting before development begins
Assess the customer, operational, and system impact of proposed product rules, and recommend alternative approaches when a requirement would create unnecessary friction, cost, or unintended consequences
Build user stories, process flows, decision tables, data mappings, and acceptance criteria that let developers build accurately, while maintaining traceability from approved decisions through implementation and testing
Own requirements questions during development as the primary point of contact, documenting clarifications and decisions as they're made
Lead UAT planning, test scenarios, business review, and the product review and beta-validation process to confirm product changes are implemented correctly before broader release
You’ll use your skills and judgment to take ownership of meaningful work, improve how we operate, and help move Kin’s mission forward. Along the way, you’ll deliver outcomes that make a real difference for both Kinfolk and the homeowners we serve.
By the end of your first year, you should feel confident in your role, trusted as an owner, and proud of the progress you’ve helped make.
Engineering and Tech Product treat your business and functional requirements as the definitive source of truth for product builds
Product decisions move to implementation-ready requirements faster, supporting quicker product and state launches
Clarification cycles, rework, and UAT delays have dropped because gaps and edge cases now surface before development starts
Requirements and implementation-review processes are consistent and scalable as Kin enters new states and expands its products
5+ years of experience in a business analyst, systems analyst, or similar role, including 3+ years in P&C insurance
~ Experience translating insurance product concepts (coverages, forms, endorsements, rating structures, eligibility rules, and state variations) into structured business and functional requirements for Engineering and Tech Product
~ Working knowledge of the insurance product lifecycle and how product decisions are configured and implemented in policy administration and related systems
~ Experience producing user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, decision tables, data mappings, and current- and future-state documentation
~ Experience partnering with Engineering or IT teams in an Agile or iterative delivery environment, including requirements clarification, UAT, and implementation validation
~ A track record of synthesizing input from multiple stakeholders into clearly documented decisions, and asking questions that surface ambiguity early
~ Bonus if you have
Knowledge of policy administration systems and how rating, forms, rules, and eligibility are configured in production
Proficiency with project management or requirements tools (Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or similar)
We’ll accept applications for this position until November 14th, 2026. While our recruiting team uses AI tools for efficiency, resumes are still screened by Kin’s in-house recruiters, and candidate evaluations and hiring decisions are made by recruiters and hiring teams. Competitive salary and company equity through Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), granted as part of our standard compensation package and based on role and level
~Multiple medical plan options, plus dental and vision coverage
~ Company-funded HSA contributions (based on medical plan selection)
~ Company-paid life insurance and short-term disability A variety of supplemental benefit options, including long-term disability, critical illness, accident, legal, and pet insurance
Access to mental health support and confidential counseling resources
Flexible PTO for exempt employees (most employees take 15–20 days per year), plus 8 company-observed holidays
Career mobility and internal growth opportunities across the organization
Kinfolk bring diverse perspectives, but we’re united by a shared set of values that shape how we work and how we show up for each other and our customers.
High performance. High performance. And so do our customers.
Each dollar we save gets reinvested to deliver more to our customers: better pricing, more products, and new innovations. We work smarter by relentlessly prioritizing and using technology, including AI, to multiply our impact. To make insurance better for our customers, we experiment. And we base decisions on data rather than assumptions. We are a remote-first company with offices in Chicago, IL and St. For Sales Agents and Customer Service Agents: Please only apply if you are able to live and work full-time in one of the states listed above.
For remote technical positions located in Canada, we are only able to hire individuals who reside in Ontario. Applicants must be able to live and work full-time in Ontario to be considered.
State locations and specifics are subject to change as our hiring requirements shift.
We don’t discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, or other applicable legally protected characteristics. Kin welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
