Adams and Associates, Inc.
Glenmont Job Corps Center | Guide, Encourage & Help Young Adults Build Their Future! Are you someone who enjoys mentoring young adults, helping people work through challenges, and encouraging others to reach their goals? Glenmont Job Corps Center is looking for a compassionate, organized, and dependable Counselor to join our team! Our Counselors are an important part of each student's Job Corps journey. You'll work directly with a group of students throughout their enrollment—getting to know them, helping them set goals, addressing challenges, tracking their progress, and encouraging them all the way through program completion. Think of this role as a combination of counselor, mentor, case manager, advocate, and student success coach. A valid in-state driver's license is REQUIRED for this position. Schedule Monday & Friday: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Tuesday–Thursday: 11:00 AM–8:00 PM What Does a Job Corps Counselor Do? Every student comes to Job Corps with different goals, experiences, strengths, and challenges. As a Counselor, you'll become one of their main points of support throughout the program. Your goal is simple: help students stay on track, overcome barriers, grow personally and professionally, and successfully complete their Job Corps journey. In this position, you will: Build relationships with students — Get to know the students assigned to you and create supportive, professional mentoring relationships. Help students create a plan for their future — Work individually with students to identify educational, career, and personal goals and develop a plan for reaching them. Provide personal and career counseling — Help students work through challenges that may affect their education, employment goals, or ability to successfully remain in the program. Track student progress — Regularly check how students are doing in academics, career training, residential life, and their overall Job Corps experience. Manage a student caseload — Maintain accurate notes, documentation, progress updates, and individualized plans for the students assigned to you. Connect students with resources — Coordinate with departments on Center and outside community resources when a student needs additional support. Help remove barriers to success — Identify problems that could prevent a student from completing the program and work with the student and other staff to find appropriate solutions. Encourage students through difficult moments — Sometimes students need someone who can listen, provide guidance, hold them accountable, and remind them why they started. Support student retention and completion — Help students remain engaged in the program and continue progressing toward graduation and employment. Assist with student transportation when needed — Transport students for approved appointments, services, or other program needs. You’ll Also Have an Opportunity to Lead This position includes an additional leadership responsibility. When the Counseling/CPP Manager is unavailable , the Counselor may serve as the Acting Counseling/CPP Manager . During those times, you'll help provide guidance and support to the department and assist with keeping daily operations running smoothly. This makes the position a great opportunity for someone who enjoys counseling and case management but also wants to continue developing their leadership and supervisory skills. Help Create a Place Where Students Feel Supported At Job Corps, counseling isn't just about paperwork and appointments. You'll help create an environment where students feel safe, respected, welcomed, and encouraged to succeed. That includes: Treating students with care, dignity, and respect Setting clear expectations and encouraging accountability Helping students develop positive behaviors and professional habits Responding appropriately when students are struggling Celebrating student progress and accomplishments Modeling the communication and professionalism we want our students to develop Staying Organized Is an Important Part of the Job Building relationships is a major part of this position—but strong documentation and case management are equally important. You’ll be responsible for: Maintaining confidential student records Completing required case notes and assessments Monitoring your assigned caseload Maintaining accurate student information Protecting sensitive and confidential information Following Job Corps and Department of Labor requirements If you're someone who can connect with people while also staying organized and keeping up with documentation , this could be a great fit. Who Would Be Great in This Role? You may be a great fit if you're someone who: Genuinely enjoys working with youth and young adults Is compassionate while still being comfortable holding students accountable Can build positive and professional relationships Is a strong listener and communicator Can remain calm when handling challenging situations Is organized and comfortable managing multiple students and responsibilities Can maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality Works well with different departments and team members Is comfortable documenting student interactions and progress Can balance being supportive, encouraging, structured, and accountable Is interested in developing leadership skills A valid in-state driver's license is required. Helping students succeed takes a team. You’ll regularly work with staff from Academics, Career Technical Training, Residential Living, Career Preparation, Health & Wellness, Recreation, Safety & Security, and other departments to make sure students receive the support they need. When a student is struggling, you’ll help bring the right people together to determine: What's happening? What does this student need? And how can we help them move forward? Why Join Glenmont Job Corps? At Glenmont Job Corps Center, you'll have the opportunity to work with young adults during an important transition in their lives. Some students may need encouragement. Some may need structure. Some may need help figuring out their next step. And sometimes, they simply need one dependable adult who continues to believe in their ability to succeed while holding them accountable for reaching their goals. What You'll Love: Meaningful work — Build relationships with students and see their growth firsthand. Mentorship opportunities — Help young adults develop confidence, independence, and life skills. Career impact — Help students create realistic plans for education, employment, and their future. Team environment — Work alongside professionals from multiple departments who share the same mission. Leadership experience — Develop your skills while having opportunities to step into an acting leadership role. Celebrate student success — Watch students progress from orientation to training, graduation and the next chapter of their lives. Ready to Make a Difference? If you're compassionate, dependable, organized, and passionate about helping young adults succeed, we'd love to hear from you! Join Glenmont Job Corps Center and become part of the support system that helps our students turn their goals into a future.
