Location: Austin, TX 78756

Pay Rate: $100,000-$150,000

Position Summary
Our client is a luxury residential general contractor. The Controller will lead their accounting and financial operations, providing accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, cash-flow management, and financial insight to ownership and leadership. Reporting to ownership and working closely with the COO, the Controller will oversee accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, project financials, and compliance across multi-million-dollar residential construction projects.


Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management
-Own general ledger, AP, AR, billing, collections, and monthly close.
-Prepare financial statements, management reports, budgets, forecasts, and projections.
-Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and financial controls.
-Report financial results and KPIs to ownership and leadership.

Construction & Project Accounting
-Oversee job costing, WIP reporting, committed costs, and project financial reporting.
-Maintain accurate open-book/cost-plus reporting for client draws and reviews.
-Monitor project budgets, change orders, billing, and profitability.
-Review project financials with project managers and ensure accurate allocation of labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead.

Payroll & Subcontractors
-Oversee payroll and ensure labor costs flow accurately into job costing.
-Maintain labor, burden-rate, and bill-rate models.
-Oversee vendor/subcontractor setup, W-9s, COIs, purchase orders, and 1099s.

Controls, Compliance & External Partners
-Establish and maintain accounting policies, controls, and documentation.
-Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable tax and regulatory requirements.
-Coordinate tax preparation, audits, insurance, licensing, and lender requirements.
-Manage relationships with CPAs, auditors, insurance representatives, and other external partners.

Systems & Leadership
-Oversee and improve accounting and construction technology, including QuickBooks Online and Adaptive.
-Establish training and review standards for project-manager cost coding.
-Improve accounting workflows, reporting, and processes.
-Serve as a trusted financial advisor to ownership and leadership.
-As the company grows, build and lead the accounting team.

Qualifications
-Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years in construction accounting.
-Experience with open-book/cost-plus residential construction.
-Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, cash-flow forecasting, and construction contracts.
-Strong understanding of GAAP and construction financial reporting.
-Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and construction accounting software.
-Advanced Excel skills.

Preferred
-High-end/custom residential construction experience.
-Experience with Adaptive and/or construction platforms such as JobTread, Procore, Buildertrend, or Sage 300 CRE.
-Experience developing labor-cost and burden-rate models.
