【Temp】Customs Compliance Coordinator (Possible Temp-to-Hire)

$24-25 / hour Benefits to be discussed Primary Job Functions Handles Customs Clearance of Shipments: Compiles and analyzes the documents required to ensure U.S. Customs and PGA requirements are met; transmits entry documents derived from the commercial invoice in accordance with customs regulations and regulations of other governmental agencies bearing on importation and/or exportation of goods; determines and tracks duties and taxes payable and processes payments on behalf of clients, based on knowledge of governmental tariffs and excise taxes; and prepares papers to appeal fines and penalties imposed by the U.S. Customs service. Helps to Maintain Records: Supports the migration from paper to paperless using digital document management systems (E-DOCs) and the company’s cargo tracking systems for uploading documents for Custom House Brokerage (CHB), internal operations, and external clients. Works with company management and operators to implement electronic documentation, and prepares e‑doc document codes and packets. Supports regional branch offices for the implementation of electronic documentation, and engages customers to show them how to utilize the online tracking tools. Follows Standard Operating Procedures: Abides by all written procedures as well as develops a personal understanding of the “flow” and usual transactions, customs, and practices of assigned accounts and those of the department. Secondary Job Functions Complies with Federal, State, and Local Requirements: Enforces adherence to requirements, files accurate and timely reports, and advises the General Manager. Keeps Senior Management Informed: Reviews and analyzes special reports, and summarizes information to identify business‑related trends. Ensures Smooth Operations: Makes sure that branch operations function correctly, establishes guidelines, and ensures that staff perform assigned tasks accurately. Maintains Professional and Technical Knowledge: Attends educational workshops, reviews professional publications, establishes professional business networks with customers and service providers, and participates in cross‑training as directed by Supervisors/Management. Improves Processes: Recommends improvements in company processes and procedures that increase productivity. Qualifications and Requirements Education: University Degree (B.A./B.S. in related field) or equivalent experience. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and/or government regulations in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, staff, clients, customers, and the general public in English. Japanese: not required. Conversational level preferred due to many Japanese staff; business level not needed. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Other Required Skills: Must be tactful, mature, and flexible. General knowledge of DEA, FDA, DOT, BXA and U.S. Customs Rules and Regulations along with Harmonized Tariff Codes is required. Must be able to use a computer and applications such as Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit and talk or listen. The staff member is further required to stand, walk, use hands to pick up, handle or feel and reach with arms. Occasionally, the staff member will need to kneel or crouch. Vision: Must be able to read and analyze written information on a computer terminal. Close vision and the ability to adjust focus are necessary for this job. Lifting: The staff member may lift, carry, push, pull or move objects of at least 15 pounds (e.g., document case).
