Property Tax Specialist (Buffalo, Syracuse, or Other Locations)

Barclay Damon LLP, a leading regional law firm of approximately 300 attorneys that operates from a strategic platform of offices located in Albany, Boston, Buffalo, New Haven, New York City, Rochester, Syracuse, Washington DC, and Toronto, is seeking an experienced professional with accounting experience for a sophisticated, national real property tax practice. No book of business is required. “Professional” for this position could include an accountant, paralegal, tax professional, or energy or other professional with a similar background and with a minimum of five years of experience in real property tax management or property tax or income tax return preparation. Knowledge of renewable energy assets for local and state real property tax assessment purposes is beneficial although not essential.

The position requires experience in the preparation of annual filings or annual returns, payment of property tax bills, handling of audits, compliance with PILOT agreements, document management, tax parcel and tax rate research, and preparation of property tax projections. An understanding of and experience in the interpretation and utilization of expert appraisal reports is also beneficial.

The preferred location for the position is Syracuse or Buffalo, New York, but other locations (Albany, Boston, New Haven, New York City, Rochester, or Washington DC) or a remote work situation may be considered for the right candidate.

This position will assist in the oversight and management of a team of professionals providing property tax compliance services to multiple large-scale independent power producers, distributed generation developers and owners, and energy storage developers and operators, largely in the renewable energy sector. Additional services will focus on assistance in the development of greenfield or repowering projects, including due diligence analysis and preparation of long-term property tax projections.

This salary range represents the firm’s good-faith and reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for the position and does not include performance- or merit-based bonuses or other benefits offered by the firm. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications, skill set, and office location.
