Part Time Day Shift

Summary

Responsible for the coordination of clinical activities of the Wound Care Center and/or Regional Medical Center. These include, but are not limited to, utilization of skills in organization, planning, implementing, evaluating, and providing care through the use of hospital and nursing standards.

Qualifications

Required:

• Current and unencumbered licensure or Interim Permit as a Registered Nurse (RN) through the Nevada State Board of Nursing
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
• Comfortable working with computers. Must be able to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, and Excel, as well as web- based database programs and the Internet

Preferred:

• Wound Care Certification
• Medical Surgical, home health, or wound care experience
• Experience and/or training in Ostomy Care

Essential Functions

• Performs recommended wound care as requested.
• Conducts head to toe skin assessments on initial wound consult and accurately and timely documents wound characteristics and treatment progress in electronic medical record (EMR).
• Provides clinical competence in procedural skills, treatments, and patient/caregiver education related to wound care management, and acts as patient advocate in delivery and coordination of patient care.
• Provides efficient and effective care under guidance of the physician. Able to manage a number of patients at the same time with high energy and organization.
• Collaborates with other health care providers regarding patient needs.
• Conducts high risk skin audits for qualifying patients for preventative and protective measures.
• Apply knowledge of all regulatory requirements related to the ongoing assessment and treatment of skin and existing wounds.
• Communicates the plan of care to the patient and his or her family.
• Identifies patient teaching needs and provides elementary instructions for the patient and his or her family.
• Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.
• Ability to act independently and make decisions under stress as necessary.
• Consistently follows established standards, policies, and procedures. Supports standards of nursing care through adherence to existing policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates customer oriented approach through the expression of respect and understanding when communicating with others.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Tact and courtesy are required at all times.
• Maintains professional competence through formal education, workshops and specific education. Completes unit mandatory education. Develops and provides staff training on wound care skills for bedside staff.
• Assists in teaching individual patients and patients in groups in established programs.
• Seeks guidance when encountering nursing procedures and responsibilities that have not been mastered.
• Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the unit specific competency standards.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Unit Specific Essential Functions
Wound Care Outpatient

• Registered Nurse is accountable for the oversight of the clinical practice, outcomes and success of the Wound Care Center.
• Performs advanced wound care interventions within scope, including:
  • Sharp/selective debridement (if applicable and credentialed)
  • Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) management
  • Compression therapy application (e.g., multilayer wraps, Unna boots)
  • Offloading techniques (total contact casting, specialty devices)
• Assesses vascular status (e.g., ABI coordination, recognition of ischemia) and escalates appropriately.
• Identifies and manages signs of infection, deterioration, or non-healing wounds and communicates timely with providers.

Wound Care Inpatient

• Apply knowledge of all regulatory requirements related to the prevention of Hospital Acquired Pressure Injuries (HAPIs).
• Performs advanced wound care interventions within scope, including:
  • Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) management
  • Compression therapy application (e.g., multilayer wraps, Unna boots)
• Assesses vascular status (e.g., ABI coordination, recognition of ischemia, doppler ultrasound) and escalates appropriately.
• Identifies and manages signs of infection, deterioration, or non-healing wounds and communicates timely with providers.
• Develops and provides training regarding wound care skills/products for bedside staff.
• Provides ostomy care, treatment and education for patients, patients family and staff.
