Software Engineer Intern (Ph.D.)

We are particularly interested in candidates with research experience in programming languages, compilers, static and dynamic analysis, and automated code refactoring. Your expertise will help shape the future of our product, impacting developers worldwide.What You'll Do:Design, develop, and maintain production-quality developer tooling, including tools related to automated code refactoring, program analysis for security and reliability, and compiler optimizations.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features based on both known PL fundamentals and cutting edge research.Contribute to the entire application lifecycle, focusing on coding and debugging.Innovate and introduce new technologies to enhance our developer platform.Gain both early stage startup experience and learn from a team with years of experience in industry development of program analysis tools.What We're Looking For:Currently a Ph.D. student in Computer Science or a related field with experience in programming languages or compilers researchStrongly preferred: research focus in static analysis, automated code refactoring, program synthesis, GenAI/LLMs for code generation, and similar areas.A passion for building user-centric products that solve real problems.Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.Experience coding in Rust is a plus, but proficiency in any of the following target languages is also useful: TS/JS, Go, Java, Kotlin, Ruby, Python, Swift.Why Join Us?Be a part of a pioneering team at a seed stage company with big ambitions.Work with experienced engineers who are experts in devexWork in an environment that values creativity and innovation.Contribute to a platform that's set to redefine the developer experience.Join us at Gitar, where we're building the future of development platforms, one line of code at a time.Location: This role is primarily based in San Mateo.
