Water Operator

General Purpose : Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the surface water treatment plant, and groundwater systems. Responsibilities Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of groundwater well systems including hydrant flow operations Operates the surface water treatment plant including plant start up, shut down, filter operations and instituting alternative water supply procedures with minimal supervision Performs basic water treatment plant and equipment maintenance and checks Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings Investigates customer water service quality issues Installs chlorine and ammonia cylinders and/or containers Assists in performing chemical operations for the water treatment plant Extracts samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analysis and completes required paperwork Operates, calibrates, transports, and performs basic equipment maintenance Performs operational checks on wells and treatment plants and records information on operating records and logs Able to perform chemical adjustments in water treatment independently Performs basic electrical functions including resetting and / or restarting equipment and changing fuses Processes computer work orders Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards Desired Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. 3 years related work experience, or a combination of education and experience as required for South Carolina “B” Water Treatment license Valid SC Driver’s License required.
